First part reveals important life milestones, which affects his philosophical mindedness reflected in his work, as well as his view of the literature and its values for a human. Second part of this thesis is focused on ethical values, which in Fuks works (Pan Theodor Munstdock, Spalovač mrtvol and Myši Natálie Mooshabrové) are the most occurred. The goal isn't only to show how the ethical values like life and death, truth and lie, good and evil, existence and absurdity affects character's lives in novels, but also their relativity. Themes of Animals and Bestiality in the Selected Works of Ladislav Fuks

Summary: This bachelor thesis deals with animal motifs and motifs connected to bestiality and inhumanity in the selected works of Ladislav Fuks (Věneček z vavřínu, Pan Theodor Mundstock, Variace pro temnou strunu, Spalovač mrtvol, Myši Natálie Mooshabrové). Its focus lies primarily on his works from the 1960s, with overlaps to his first work from the 1950s and one novel from the early 1970s. It concerns animal motifs, animalistic attributes of the characters, bestiality, brutishness and inhuman behavior. The aim of the thesis is to capture these motifs and mainly to characterize their meaning and function in each particular work and in the overall thematic structure of Fuks' oeuvre. The Cremator: The Fetish as The Denial of Life and The Adoration of Death

The Cremator: The Fetish as The Denial of Life and The Adoration of Death Summary The object of interest in the semiotic analysis of the literary work "The Cremator" by the Czech writer Ladislav Fuks are primarily the motifs of fetishism and the cult of death. This framework is examined in the relation to the specific "new" language of masochism and in the relation to the aphasic language disorder related to metonymy. The utterance of the main character Karl Kopfrkingel intermingles with the way he thinks and consequently acts, as he duplicates through his language a fictional world and obscures it with the fetishized descriptions adoring the death. In this case, the masochism is not manifested in a sexuality (as in the case with Masoch), but on the ethno-social level related to the personal myth crisis and the subsequent transformation of Kopfringel and the related environment of the fictional world. These aspects become to a murdering urges in the context of ethnic affiliation, which has become to an obstacle and the settlement with it demands the establishment of a new order. Philosophy inspiration in selected works by Ladislav Fuks

The aim of this diploma theses is to find philosophical, religious and ideological motifs in the work of Ladislav Fuks and subsequently interpret their origin, intertextuality and meaning in the text. The emphasis is put on proving the semantic functionality in the story. For our research, we have selected following works: Mr. Theodore Mundstock, The Cremator, and Addressing from the Darkness. We will study philosophical and theological literature, as well as materials from the archives and from the estate of Ladislav Fuks in order to base all the findings on the biographical author, too. The thesis is divided into five chapters. In the first chapter we deal with basic literary characteristics of the selected books and their literary reception. The second chapter discusses Ladislav Fuks' relationship to philosophy, being anchored in both his friends' testimonies and the archival research of his estate. The third chapter is the most important and the most comprehensive one since it deals with the interpretation of philosophical motifs in each of the selected books. In the fourth chapter we compare individual philosophical motifs from different works with each other. We summarize the findings at the end of the theses.

Spalovač mrtvol in Book and Film Form

The bachelor thesis deals with the interpretation of Ladislav Fuks´s work The Cremator and a comparison of a film with the same title, which has been directed by Juraj Herz. The first part of the thesis offers a brief view into the private and artistic life of the author. The aim of the second part is the novel analysis, which is focused on primary as well as secondary characters and motives. The third part presents a film version of the novel. The analysis is focused on motives, technical part such as camera, edit and sound. The last part deals with a comparison of both versions, especially film and novel characters and each scenes.

The thesis deals with the portrayal and function of space in literary and film versions of the 60's wave texts - the Cremator and Diamonds of the Night. The first chapter is concerned with works of autors, who focused between 1945 - 1968 on the second World war literature. Then the thesis tries to describe shortly the issue of portrayal of space in the literature and film adaptations. The folowing chapters focuse directly on the comparison of space in the two selected works. The aim of this thesis is to find out and to describe differences between portrayal of the spaces via literary and film instruments. Between Text and Context: The Theory of the Literary Field and Cultural Materialism as Models of Mediation Josef Šebek, Mgr. Abstract In his dissertation Between Text and Context: The Theory of the Literary Field and Cultural Materialism as Models of Mediation the author deals with the problem of mediation between literary text and its social context. He focuses on two important contemporary context- oriented approaches to literature: the theory of literary field, developed by Pierre Bourdieu, and cultural materialism, first formulated by Raymond Williams and further elaborated by Alan Sinfield and Jonathan Dollimore. He interprets these two theories as basic, mutually complementary models of mediation: the theory of literary field presupposes the existence of a (semi-)autonomous literary micro-world, whereas cultural materialism stresses the full integration of the literary text into the social context, the "social material process" (Williams). After an introduction outlining the problem, the author concentrates on Bourdieu's theory of the literary field, his "new science of works," and on contemporary post-Bourdieusian approaches (those of Alain Viala, Anna Boschetti, Jacques Dubois, Gisèle Sapiro, Pascale Casanova, Bernard Lahire, Jérôme Meizoz, Geoffroy de Lagasnerie) which employ, develop, and modify...
